My desire to have a very high quality hoop "when I grew up" began when I was probably 12. I longed for the ability to dunk and have dunk contests with my friends without fear of wrecking their big box store adjustable hoop of the 1990's. Last year I completed a remodel and addition on my forever home that included a 60x40 pad connecting my house/garage with our detached garage. I could finally justify getting a hoop worthy of the court it would be played on. Over the past year, I searched and searched all of the competitors to find which would offer the most for the least. I even did historical searches to find when companies had additional discounts throughout the year (March Madness, 4th of July, Black Friday, etc) to make sure I got the best deal I could. I'm still not sure how exactly I found Mega Slam, but I am glad I did. They didn't have any flashy sales promotions (although its ALWAYS on "INSTANT (INSERT MONTH) DISCOUNT". After a year or looking around, I felt comfortable selecting a company I hadn't heard of less that six months prior in Mega Slam. Having 4 boys (10, 8, 3, and 1 - I know, one lucky dad!) I felt like I would definitely get my moneys worth on this $1800 goal with all of the games would would play over the next 40 years. I finally ordered it in March and in true Wisconsin fashion, we had several snow storms well into April that prevented us from putting it up until Mid April. I had done a lot of checking and felt very confident in installing myself, so we set off digging the hole. I did not set the forms right away so the older boys got a little ambitious and ended up digging a 30"x24" hole. Back to the store for more concrete. Poured the pad and set the anchor. Another snow storm dumped 14" so it sat another week. Once the weather changed and were able to install and we installed with just 3 guys. Everything went very smoothly except the backboard. That took a little bit to line up. Man - that back board was heavy and we had it sitting on a 6' step ladder. After getting the install done, the hoop has been played on daily. The boys love being being able to bring it down to dunk and put it up for family games. The 3 year old has now worked himself up to shooting at about 7' so his confidence is up that he can play with the big boys and as soon at the 1 year old gets outside, he walks right over to the tote we use for all of the outside balls, looks back at me and says "BALLS"! Definitely a future baller. I had 2 pretty small defects I noted while installing. The Mega Slam emblem would not stick. I ended up peeling their securing tape and replaced with my own. The other was 4 or 5 scuffs in the paint of the rim like someone handled it before it was completely dry. I emailed customer service and was shipped a replacement rim within a day. We also added a little bungee cord around the height indicator so it slides right on the tape to make it easier for the kids to see exactly what height they have set since they cant see it straight on like an adult. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and experience with Mega Slam. I look forward to what the future holds for my family and spending quality time on the court. My hope is that this will be a hoop that my grand kids will play on in 20-30 years.
